Sectors of Languedoc-Roussillon Region

Food industry

The dynamism and strong growth characterizing the food industry in Languedoc-Roussillon make it the first industrial sector of the Region with 1174 companies and over 25,000 employees. From the economical aspect, the food industry in the region makes sales of 8 billion Euros (about 12 billion dollars) of which 13% is completed out of France. In terms of quality, the food industry in Languedoc-Roussillon owns its reputation to the great variety of locally-grown traditional products(terroir) reaching an harmonious balance within its extraordinary diversity. The Region associates the benefits of the Mediterranean diet with the authenticity of local products and specialties: fruits & vegetables, seafood (45,000 tons of fish), cereals (20% of French wheat production), cheeses, processed meat (charcuterie), breeding products, honey¡ Furthermore, its geographical position is ideal for French, Mediterranean and European markets and is enhanced by a strong logistical infrastructure (daily access to more than a 100 million consumers, cost-effective approach of the markets, logistics hubs, commitment to the cold chain, control of traceability, etc) including Saint-Charles International (in Perpignan), the 1st European allotment center for fruits and vegetables.

Multisector

The multisectorial sector includes the industries of Environment, Health, Habitat and Building, High Tech, Yachting and Agriculture. In 2008, Septimanie Export created a multisectorial service able to unite a greater number of companies to collectively bring them to the international market relying on the regional export development program. This collective approach allows to bypass the difficulties usually encountered by a company developing an international strategy by itself in a remote or complex country. Bringing those companies together make their export growth strategy more effective, through a system of pooling (means, competences, experiences, image…) but also through a shared tools access (strategic tools, operational and methodological tools…). Beneficiating from the same support provided to established sectors of Septimanie Export, those emerging sectors tend towards a strong structuring.
